Daily Herald Business Writer a Wickes Furniture store opening in Schaumburg is part of an aggressive expansion plan for the local company. Wickes, based in Wheeling, is set to open quietly Tuesday at 580 E. Golf Road. A grand opening with promotions and sales is set for early January.

The mid-priced furniture retailer plans to open another 20 stores in 2007, said Nora Gardner, creative services manager for Wickes. Locally, the store has plans to open at 825 S. Rand Road in Lake Zurich and at 2606 N.  Elston Ave. in Chicago.

Group pays $17M for rights to sale. Wheeling, Ill.- A U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved the liquidation plan for Wickes Furniture last week, signaling the beginning of the end for the Top 100 company.

The winning bidders were Hilco Merchant Resources, SB Capital, Tiger Capital and Planned Furniture Promotions, confirmed Roy Hester, vice president of sales for Planned Furniture Promotions.
